Frequently asked questions
Where is your studio located? Do you travel?
Boudoir By Afton is located in NYC and shoots out of Brooklyn, and of course I travel! Contact me for more information about destination boudoir.
Why should I book with Boudoir By Afton?
I know it’s no easy feat to work up the gumption it takes for a boudoir shoot. It’s hard. Like really hard. It’s hard to see yourself as lovable and worthy. It’s hard to embrace or even just accept the skin you’re in. You know what else is hard? Hearing your own negative self-talk. It’s hard to look in the mirror and hate what you see. It’s hard to continue being socialized that your body isn’t ____ enough, no matter what you do. So the choice I present is: which Hard will it be?
I want to show you that one Hard is worth choosing so much more than the other. My mission is to connect you with your own authenticity, sensuality, and confidence. And maybe that can’t be achieved in one photoshoot, but it can certainly plant the seed.
Feedback I often is: “That was so therapeutic”. I’m definitely no therapist, but I think where this comes from is a feeling of connecting back to oneself. You’re creating this feeling in your body of showing up for yourself, wholly and unapologetically. Being in your skivvies is vulnerable no doubt - but after working with me, clients often realize the strength of that vulnerability. It’s a day well spent and work worth doing to help you get there and see for yourself what’s possible. I’ll help you realize your story separates you from the rest and I’ll show you the beauty in it.

Will you photoshop my pictures? Can you?
First, let’s define “photoshop”… The first thing I do when taking photos into Lightroom is do some light adjusting that will kick up the color and other enhancements. And then I might go in and remove anything that won’t be there next week like a blemish or bruise. I may remove stray hairs or rogue clothing tags. I will not, under any circumstances, edit the shape of your body. I understand we’ve all got areas we aren’t quick to showcase, but that’s what my expertise in posing, lighting, and camera angling is for. I can photograph you in a way that draws attention to your proudest parts without having to “photoshop” anything to be smaller or bigger. This topic is extremely important to me because I believe we can all contribute to undoing the social programming that our bodies need to be fixed, photoshopped, or facetuned. If you would like more editing than what I offer, I may not be the photographer for you.
What if I don’t know how to pose?
Unless your name is Bella Hadid, I do not expect you to have any knowledge in posing! No need to go down any YouTube or Pinterest rabbit holes looking for tips and tutorials on boudoir posing - that’s what you’re investing in me for. I’ve got you! I’ll guide you through every motion, often showing you myself so you can mirror. I have a background in teaching yoga asana, which means I’m highly trained in using my voice to gently and clearly guide your body in and out of poses, even incorporating breath so that you’re connecting to your body and your face is relaxed.
Do I have to be nude?
Not at all. At its core, boudoir is about the intersection of sensuality and confidence and that looks different for everyone. You can feel your sexiest and most confident in the biggest, oldest sweater you own and if that’s the case, I can’t wait to capture you in it. How exposed you are in your photos is completely up to you and we can collaborate on what feels spicy and sensual while respecting your safety zone.
Can I bring a friend?
Why not? I encourage having one friend come along if it will help you enhance your experience.
Do you offer hair and makeup?
Absolutely. There is no pressure to choose hair and makeup for your shoot, but if you’d like the extra glam, it’s available for $275 or just makeup for $250 (More on investment here). We will determine ahead of time what your glam style and preference is so that you’re feeling beautiful but still looking like like yourself. The artist will be with us at the beginning and then excuse herself once we start shooting for your privacy. The cost for hair and makeup is due on the day of your shoot.
What is the cost?
The session fee is $375, and packages begin at $950. The session fee is due at the time of booking to secure your date. More on investment here and of course feel free to reach out with any questions. Price transparency is important to me so I’m always happy to talk.
Do you accept payment plans?
Yes. There are three options for payment methods:
Pay in full: You can pay your balance in full at the time of our in person or virtual reveal, when your album is designed and ordered.
Pre-payment plan: At the time of booking, you will select which package you’d like and we will begin a pre-photoshoot payment plan to have your balance completely paid 7 days prior to your shoot date. If you choose to pre-pay, you’ll enjoy a 5% discount on any package you choose. *The Equinox package includes a Polaroid add-on when selecting pre-payment. More about the different package options here.
Post-payment plan: Depending on your level of investment, post-session plans can be spread out between 3 and 6 months. All of your products will be delivered after your balance is paid off.
PayPal Credit: Any package can be paid through PayPal Credit, either in full or over time.
What do I wear?
Whatever you want! Seriously! After you book, I will send a comprehensive shopping and styling guide chock-full of ideas. Once your creative juices start flowing, I’ll check in and we’ll narrow down. We shoot for roughly an hour and half and are able to get about 3-4 looks in, but if you’re married to more than that, we’ll find a way to get them in!
